These might be a really dumb questions, but forgive me as this is my first European train trip, and a search didn't come up with any answers...

1) On the train from Rome to Civitavecchia, do you check your luggage, or do you store everything in the luggage racks above you?

2) If you don't check luggage, would you recommend getting a chain lock for the bags so they don't disappear if we fall asleep?

From what I can tell, you check bags on long trips, but this is only 1 hour or so..thanks for your help!
