Kyseisestä viasta on aiheutunut myöhästymisiä Finnairin A350-laivastossa neljässä eri koneyksilössä. Lentokoneen valmistaja on julkaissut viasta seurantadokumentin (TFU 32.21.00.016 ): uudistettu venttiili on tekeillä.

Sovintotarjouksemme on voimassa kaksi viikkoa, 06.04.2017 saakka. Ilmoitathan, kumpi vaihtoehto sopii sinulle paremmin.

Finnair Asiakaspalautteet

I did a quick Google for that kind of design/manufacturing fault and couldn't find anything.

For me this smells like AY is now started to play really hard ball with these 261's.
From Google Translate, I gather that Finnair has denied your friend's request for compensation by claiming that the aircraft had a defect and Airbus issued a maintenance document (reference TFU 32.21.00.016) relating to the defect.

The van der Lans and Wallentin-Hermann cases will probably be most useful for your friend (see the wiki).

Maybe it was lost in translation, but did the document (reference TFU 32.21.00.016) issued by Airbus actually reveal a hidden manufacturing defect affecting the safety of all A350 aircraft (and not just the specific aircraft allocated to operate your friend's flight)?

If the Airbus document did indeed reveal a hidden manufacturing defect in all A350 aircraft, this would consitute 'extraordinary circumstances'.

However, an airline is only released from its obligation to compensate passengers for a flight delay/cancellation where 2 conditions are fulfilled: (1) it was caused by 'extraordinary circumstances'; and (2) the airline took reasonable measures to deal with the situation.

The onus is on Finnair to demonstrate that it met both conditions. However, from its response it seems unclear if the Airbus document actually revealed a hidden manufacturing defect affecting the safety of all A350 aircraft and, even if it did, what reasonable measures (if any) Finnair took to deal with the situation.
