If you have high enough status with OZ, you can pre-assign the blocked seats, but I guess you don't have high status with OZ.
Many airlines and not just OZ block certain seats until check-in and only allow high status pax to select them in advance.
This is their policy, and if you don't like it, you can always fly on another airline.
Just select your preferred seat at check-in.
Even if you end up sitting in another seat other than the one you wanted, you are still flying first class.
And OZ's first class seats are virtually all the same.
What's the big deal?
