How much was the award, and how many miles did you have in your account prior to redeeming it? Elite members can overdraft their account by 10 000 miles, and Elite Plus can overdraft by 15000 miles. It's an unpublished benefit, but it's very useful if you want to book a trip but don't have enough miles in your account.
