We chose GDL based on all the good things I've been reading about it's Historic City Center and the fact that the fares are consistently low (along with the super easy upgrade...probably the best in the system right now).
It's amazing how low the fares are right now to the non-beach destinations in Mexico, especially from California markets. I've seen under $200 r/t on LAX-MEX/GDL on AM.
Have fun in GDL! I'm a little jealous. After driving down to Tijuana and Rosarito last weekend for the first time in a few years, I became rudely aware again how much of a mess that area is. My boyfriend, who had never been and whose family is from GDL, was more or less mortified. Can't wait to try and drag him down there some weekend soon with these great fares.
