If you book via VirginAmerica.com there is a check box you check to say "Add me to the MCS upgrade waitlist". If you book somewhere else, you need to call and have them add you to the list, as you will not be automatically upgraded.

You can also call within the 12 hour window before departure and they can u/g you immediately if space is available.
