If we have to check from point of departure, and considering we have a 9-hour layover in DOH before heading to the US, odds our electronics will be there in LAX? Slim to none. (Would also greatly enhance someone putting something in the bags. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
Or invest in a high capacity flash drive stick. Those are usually not cheap, so it's up to you to weigh up the risks/costs.
