If, for example, you were interested in Coach flights between HI and the Western U.S. (AZ, CA, OR, or WA), crediting your flights to BA might make sense. When lowest-tier ("SAAver") award seats are available on AA or AS nonstops between HI and those destinations, you would pay just 12,500 BA Avios per person, one-way. And BA does not charge any close-in booking fees on award redemptions either.

For short-haul nonstops (<1,151 miles) on the Mainland on AA or AS, BA charges just 7,500 Avios.

If needed, you could also bulk up your Avios balance with several different credit cards.
