Thanks for the trip report!
One depressing thought that did cross my mind is that I distinctly remember having breakfast on a plane 20 years ago in economy short haul that looked like that, that too with real cutlery.
I know prices have come down a lot since but not to the point that decent food on board should be compromised.
I have family friends who run catering services at LHR who gave me the impression that with the economies of scale this sort of meal wouldn't cost more than a few quid anyway..?
