I'm no BA apologist but there does seem to be something about assigning nippers row 1 in CE.

on an Stuttgart- Heathrow we were decamped even though we had 5 of the 6 seats in CE. Row 1 went empty.

similarly, on a SZG-LHR the gate check didn't like the fact we had those seats - but there was little the agent could do.
