You have the current promo for 30% bonus miles when converting hotel points to Aeroplan miles. Not that I would ever want to exchange IHG points for Aeroplan miles, even with a bonus... But that is certainly better than just switching to earn miles instead of points.

That said, sometimes you can see Aeroplan promote hotel offers - 1000 miles per night/stay/whatever - that the hotel chains aren't really promoting, so it can make some sense if you find a decent airline promo that works for you.
