In my comments I am referring to my personal experience, which does not include non-functioning 1st class seats from which it is impossible to move. Unpleasant, but hardly commonplace.
If you look up the thread on the winter snow chaos in 2010, there are plenty of people there who sued BA for downgrading them to Y. Similarly the loss of open doors thread (2011 ?) is full of threats never to fly BA again and comments on how much worse things have got. If you read Cicero, you will find similar comments on how much worse things have got recently - he was writing in the first century BC.
Human nature is to view the past selectively and often favourably. However, if it could be recreated, I wonder who would prefer a BA flight in 70s or 80s form to today's offering?
Have to agree with you on luggage handling. That used to be a real problem but although I try and avoid checking in luggage, I still need to do it a few times a year, and for the past few years there has been no problem at all. I wonder however whether the message is getting through. No, judging by the numbers of people who fly with hand luggage only (regardless of fare)- and we all know the problems that causes on busy SH flights.
