Does anyone else feel that standards in the airline industry in general, not just at BA but most airlines, have became so poor and the experience of flying (even in premium cabins) so unpleasant and cantankerous, that one simply no longer feels compelled to complain? If one does complain, it stands to reason one actually cares about the quality of the product or has expectations that have not been met. Ten years ago I complained about the most minute details and screeched loudly about my first world problems like my human rights had been violated; BA promptly gifted me 10,000 miles ex gratia every time, or better. It helped keep me loyal.
These days I sometimes (mostly?) simply cannot be bothered. My expectations of the flying experience have sunk so low that if I arrive somewhat on time without being yelled at, and the seat sort of works, and the lounges are simply full rather than heaving, I am reasonably content. A recent experience had me delayed by over seven hours, baggage lost, being involuntary rerouted, changing airports, and not getting any compensation. In the past I would have exploded with rage. I would have demanded seppuku be performed. The foundations of the Earth would have shifted. Now I did not even write a Tweet. This was partly because the front line BA staff were extremely kind and apologetic, and did their best to take care of me within their (increasingly) limited powers despite the circumstances. I could appreciate their efforts. But complaining to BA management about the actual failure of service? Why? What will it get me besides hypertension? Maybe a few miles that I will not be able to redeem anyway?
I actually still enjoy the act of flying but feel very jaded at times about the airlines doing the flying.
