I would not advise that. Just stick with Hyatt in Japan even without status, unless of course Ritz-Carlton or high end Starwood properties are options.
SPG/Marriott Platinum would be very useful if you can somehow get it.
If paying BAR at these hotels, Virtuoso, R-C STARS, Starwood Luxury Priveleges, and Amex FHR bookings will get valuable benefits such as upgrades, breakfast, and hotel credit, etc...
