While commiserations are due to your friend, on balance of probabilities, a given passenger is not enduring one of the worst periods of time in their life, so the case for treating them as if they are is weak.
English is the international language of travel, so lack of its comprehension is likely to make one's passage through the airport more difficult. And the majority of people can read the signs and understand what they mean. If you don't know the language or not sure of procedures, look and do what others are doing. It's not rocket science.
So while you may ask for consideration of travellers who are likely to represent the minority of pax, I ask for consideration for those who can read and understand and know what the etiquette is yet are inconvenienced by the minority who struggle for efficiency.
