For your situation probably SYD-PER flexi fare, although I'm not sure if you'd find that boring or not. Flying to NZ through BNE would work too, and quite exicting, especially the int'l connection in BNE

Alternatively there are usually cheap fares to Asia via SQ. That might be more interesting than staying on VA and even if you had to take a quick cheap RT on VA to MEL or something you might still come out ahead on $$.
