Tickets on successive dates are not necessarily "impossible" and there are many people who may routinely use such tickets.

However, tickets where the passenger could not possibly fly both are definitionally "impossible" and the algorithm to spot those is simple.
Anytime this has happened to me, I got an email and call requesting I call reservations before they canceled anything. I never let it get to an automated cancelation, so I don't know exactly what would happen if you just ignored it.

Tickets on successive days should be fine.
