Alaska Airlines Cancel Duplicate Ticket?

Hey all, just heard something from an agent, and wanted to see if it's legit.

I booked a flight (SFO-SEA), and past the 24 hour free-cancel window, realized that I booked my return flight on the wrong day. So, because the change fee is $125 a person, I bought new tickets for the next day (SEA-SFO) for the next day for ~$100 a person.

Today, I called the agent to see what if anything they could do with the old ticket. The rep I talked to said that not only can't they do anything for me, but the new ticket is likely to get cancelled as a duplicate ticket to the first one (since you can't fly SEA-SFO on one day and then again on the next day) and that the only way around that is to pay the $125 change fee to turn my round trip into a one-way!

This sounds insane to me. Should I be worrying that they're going to cancel my flight home?
