Good stay at the sofitel Macau
Check In We arrived during the afternoon with the Sofitel bus from the ferry terminal in the city. There are a few members of staff to manage the people at the ferry terminalThere was no queue for check-in so we were taken to the front desk by the staff that was in the lobby, and once there we were redirected to the lounge for check-in.Once in the lounge check-in went smoothly, we had been upgraded from a Luxery room to a club luxery room, received 2 drink vouchers and club access. I didn't recognise any of the staff that we encountered last year, and overall the staff were not as good as last year, but I can't pinpoint why. Last time our stay was exceptionnal, the staff were very helpful and seemed happy to have us there, our stay here was the reason that I decided to requalify for platinum status last year. This year our experience was just ok. Room We booked a luxury room and were upgraded to a club luxury room on the 17th floor.Luxury roomLuxury roomLuxury roomLuxury roomFlowers waiting for us in the room. Our welcome gift, they seem to be changing the gift regularely: When we noticed that we had been upgraded to the same room category that we had booked, but just on the club floor, I went back to the club lounge check-in desk and asked if we could get a room upgrade because we booked and received a luxury room (the only reason I booked a Luxury room is to see if we would get upgraded to a suite, as last time we booked a superior room and received a Luxery club room). They said that the club room is an upgrade, but when I argued that I would have club access with my platinum status they agreed to upgrade us to what they called a "junior suite" but that it would be on the 8th floor (room 812/813). I am not sure if it was a Junior suite or a prestige suite, but it was larger than the junior suite that Goldorak reviewed in 2014. There was a separate room with the lounge area and 2 bathrooms.Suite - Bedroom area: looks a lot like the luxury room but without the glass wall between the bathroom and the room.Suite: TV in the bedroom areaSuite: Coffee area with kettle, team and nespresso machineSuite: living areaSuite: TVSuite: some gym equipment: a floor mat and some small weightsSuite: some tea offered at turn-downView from the suiteAnd now to look at the negatives of the room, as cocoleolol said above, the rooms could do with some refurbishment/deep clean.Stains on the carpetsStains on the couchStains on couchWindow handels broken, windows didn't open (in both parts of the room)Window handels broken, windows didn't open (in both parts of the room)Stains on curtains Bathroom The suite was made of 2 connecting rooms, one had a bed, the other one had a living area. Both of them had their own bathroom but the Hermes wash products were only in one of the bathrooms (both of them had soap). Both bathrooms were about the same (with a bath, shower and WC), and are symmetrical.Bathroom in lounge part of suite.Bathroom in bedroom part of suite. As you can see there is a mirror on the wall instead of the glass walls in the luxury rooms reviewed in the thread.Bathroom in Bedroom partBathroom ameties in suiteBath salts, pillow and scrubBath scales, in case you abuse of the lounge offerings!Decent shower. Service Some of the services offered by the hotel:-Welcome letters detailing platinum benefits, lounge offering and formalities-A sleep menu:-A spa menu:-The mini bar:-Free drink voucher menu: Location The location of this hotel is great if you are not visiting Macau for the casino's, it is close to the historic part of town and you can walk around the area to visit. Amenities In this section I will talk about the lounge, the best lounge offering that I have encountered at Accor properties. The lounge offers Breakfast, afternoon tea and happy hour. I will not add much here as we had the same (positive) experience than cocoleolol posted just above. I will note that they have added menu's that didn't seem to be there last time I went, detailing:-Club Softiel Drink menu (drinks that are offered all day)-Club Sofitel a la Minute (Cooked to order options for breakfast)-Club Sofitel Cocktails and Wine (happy hour drinks offering) Overall Overall a good experience, but didn't have the magic of our first stay at this hotel. Most of the club staff didn't seem to be as attentive or enthousiast as previousely. Was also not very pleased with the upgrade being the same room as booked but on the club floor, but they did accept to upgrade us further upon request. In any case, we would definately return to this property if we get the club privileges, I would definately book a club room if I returned and was no longer platinum.
