This policy really sucks for people who are profitable for AMEX (in terms of lounge use): a family of four, with two young kids who don't drink any alcohol and hardly eat, who visit twice a year. Those are the people with whom I talk daily, and why AMEX would go out of their way to alienate them is beyond me.
I don't drink alcohol, nor do I eat in lounges. So if that's the criteria, I should get in free? I'll take that anyday. All I want is a quiet place with decent wifi to relax in between flights.
