The FHR benefits for the AU may be useful by way of weaving together separate one-night reservations where the first night is for one Plat cardholder and the second night is for the second Plat cardholder. And the Delta lounge access doesn't allow for guests, so maybe that is another way the AU card is still useful. Also, with the AU getting their own Priority Pass membership as an Amex Platinum who calls up Amex to get that benefit, perhaps the AU fee is really worth it.
