Incident at Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos 3/12

My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos March 10-12, 2017. We had a wonderful time during our stay.

We were at the swim-up bar around noon yesterday March 12 when people started running out of the building where the lobby was located towards the beach. We were by the speaker and the music was very loud but people were clearly panicked. A lifeguard ordered the music shut off and all guest to return to their rooms. Rumors started that there were shots fired on the beach (which didn't make sense).

We started for our rooms only to be stopped and told shouldn't go to the lobby since that is where the incident occurred. Our room was on the fifth floor two stories directly below from the presidential suite. Policía Federal were all through the lobby in body armor.

Apparently, a shootout had taken place just outside the hotel with one of the gunman apparently was able to take advantage of the entrance gate being open to let a car in and run into the hotel where he was tackled from behind by police. The hotel initially said it was likely a petty thief but newspapers this morning said the police thought he might have been part of a two-man squad associated with the cartels.

I thought the board should know about this but I think the hotel handled the situation about as well as can be expected. Just a reminder to never let you guard down! Here is a link to an article with a video of the incident:
