There's a Duty Free shop in Colombo airport before you get to baggage reclaim, retailing only in USD. When I was there last July prices were not bad at all, at least a match for prices in the UK, so that might be an option for you. It won't work if you want a specific whiskey, especially the single malts, but if you're just buying the usual suspects like Grouse it might be worth it.
