I'm also of the opinion that Sofitel is a lovely hotel but far far too quiet for me also . Other than a shopping centre everything is focused on hotel bars which certainly wasn't for me We done 5 nights there and 5 nights in Legian at the Mercure which obviously is not as up market but was less than a year old and staff etc were brilliant . By the way I am in my 50's and much preferred the night life of Kuta and Legian ^
