It took 5yr since OP join FT to post on the UA forum about not trusting UA, then another ~1.5yr to post on here (AC forum) about Aeroplan (which it is really AC I think) not providing a free upgrade.

So, it think we actually should help OP understand the game of FFP and perhaps OP will post more and be master at it... or at least set the correct expectation to avoid the disappointment.

My one main point for OP is that if Business Class seats are so easy to book/redeem by miles by anyone, then, most flights will be fill with AP tickets holder only. I am sure there are many others also looking at the same upgrade as you are, so, once it does release, and someone might have grab it already.

2nd point is about the no blackout date is really referring to Market Fare booking where you are using your AP miles to pay for a purchase ticket. So, if AC is still selling the flight, Market Fare booking should be available.
