That's not entirely correct. Many Hindus (myself included) eat meat, fish and other non-vegetarian food. Its Beef which is usually a no-go (but even beef is consumed by many Hindus such as myself). It is usually those belonging to the Brahmin caste who do not eat meat, but even here there are many exceptions, such as the Brahmins of Bengal.
