If I book this as a separate ticket and my inbound flight is late, would CX rebook me for a later KA or CX flight or would I be SOL?
My reading of the Cathay conditions of carriage is that you will be reaccommodated. Conditions are here (see section 10.2): https://www.cathaypacific.com/conten...baggage-en.pdf

A connecting flight is defined:

“CONNECTING FLIGHT” means a subsequent flight providing onward travel on
the same ticket, on a different ticket or on a conjunction ticket.
LHR/MEL/Europe FF is offline
