Customers are paying for the experience. FAs are being paid to deliver it.
An FA's requirements (for safety and security) trump customers' desires. But customers' desires trump FA's desires. FAs chatting loudly is indeed disrespectful.
Three rules that FAs (or anyone in the service industry) should be living by:
Never compete with the guest - Be less glamorous, less opinionated, and less talkative.
Wait for the invitation - Be alert for signals that a customer needs assistance or attention.
Treat formally until given the right to be informal.
