I do a lot of long exposure night sky photography. It only takes about 10 min of darkness for the rods to reach "full night vision" The cones take much longer. I don't even start shooting for 10 min, and after 30 min of darkness, the returns of more time are extremely diminishing. If color recognition isnt important, 10 min of darkness gets you pretty close to your max night vision.
