To my knowledge, they are valid until you make the appointment. This is why it is advised that you arrange it for a few months in the future at some place that you may visit and then you can bring it back to take place in London if the embassy facility does return. However, keep an eye on your original appointment date and bump it into the future if it gets close with London still not open. Worst case: arrange it for the start/end date of your holiday.
