CW footstool on 787 fleet jams in upper position
I have noticed a consistent problem on all the 787s I have flown on so far (both 788 and 789) with the CW footstool.
It is meant to have two positions. A latch may be released by squeezing the handle of the footstool seat which is supposed to allow the footstool to be moved to the lower position. This is different to the mechanism on the 777 and 744 aircraft.
I have found that the latch is almost impossible to operate, and that the short metal tongue which holds the stool in the higher position is almost always jammed in and very difficult to release. I have asked the crew to help release it on a number of occasions and they always try hard but end up being completely mystified by why it fails to work.
After a good deal of fiddling around I have usually managed to release it, but not having heard anything here I wondered if I am the only one to notice the problem. Could it be that it is only a problem on 7D and 7E?
