Slightly OT, but this may not be so unusual in Portugal. I was there a few weeks ago and had two SPG stays and one night at the Lisbon Airport Tryp. The SPG hotels only had packets of instant coffee (no fee that I recall) but the Tryp had a pod machine of sorts and a card stating the pods were 1 Euro apiece, and to get them from the front desk. Since my whole reason for staying at the airport was a ridiculously early departure, I broke down and got 2 coffee pods for the morning form the desk. Agree that it felt very chintzy.
On the other hand, the packets of instant coffee, while free in the room, also made me feel like someone was cutting corners. Would have loved to have an American style soft pod brewer in my room instead. I hate instant.
