ok I settled on westin sydney and will find out where to eat afterwards. quick question on the surrounding and sorry for being off topic, is it safe to go for a run alone during the night or early morning (2am to 5am ish) in the city? Particularly hyde park or the opera house/botanic garden area.
It's safe. Personally I wouldn't go
through Hyde Park during those hours, but if you're running you're going to be a lot sharper than anyone who might be looking to do you harm at that time of the morning.
You'll quickly get the feeling that Sydney is a pretty safe place, just take the usual precautions that you would anywhere; if something feels wrong then just cross the street to avoid it.
The biggest danger you'll face will be from Sydney's cyclists who are often arrogant and insane.
