If you are arriving at the same time, there is no reason to not just put the reservation under your name with her name as the secondary guest. You can let her pay for it and have them change the invoice to her name, if necessary, at check-out.
Otherwise, you're just asking for unnecessary hassles. Even if she has a corporate rate, that could still be made in your name as the primary guest since she will be with you and can clear up any issues with qualifying for the rate.
i was thinking the same thing, but her assistant seem VERY leery of even putting my name on the reservation as a second guest, much less allowing me to have anything to do with the reservation itself.
Dr. HFH, i wish they knew me...but they don't, and there don't appear to be any special rates for my platinum goodness!
i learned today that she's apparently booked for four of the nights on an unchangeable rate in a SINGLE room, so things are feeling less optimistic all-around. i still feel i could show up with her at check-in and likely finagle at least a room with two beds, but i really don't know my way around japan and japanese hotels...dunno.
