I stopped using Hertz, despite being a President's Circle or whatever they call it member, because of their PlatePass scam. I also stopped using Thrifty, despite being a Blue Chip or whatever they call it member, because they are owned by Hertz. We need to vote with our pocket books.
I've been using Alamo a lot for the last few rentals. Owned by Enterprise. Yes, Hertz has more convenient and dominant placement in airports, but when adding up the time, hassle, and stress of fighting PlatePass on principle, sending letters and evidentiary proofs in credit card charge disputes, taking the long way on the ground to avoid toll roads altogether, or trying to figure out where or if the Hertz car has a transponder, while wondering if the camera on the Hertz nav is still scrumptiously spying on me blowing my nose.... vs simply catching a free shuttle to the Alamo lot and saving substantial amounts of money with lower rental rates, especially through Costco membership... it's a no brainer for me.
