That's shocking. I would work around that by using the direct email addresses of management/concierge.
The rerouting of calls to central reservations does happen at some hotels, but I expect to be asked first if they may transfer my call. I sometimes tell the operator that I do not want my call transferred to central reservations and request to speak to someone on property.
