any way to get platinum benefits if not the primary guest?

i've searched, and realize this is a long shot, but...

has anyone been able to have platinum benefits applied if you're not paying for the room? any suggestions?

i have a friend who'll be in tokyo for business for a week. she's invited me to join her, but has no spg status. is there any way we can take advantage of mine?

obviously her company won't reimburse *me* for the room--nor should they--so i won't be listed as the primary guest, although we'll put my name on the room. i'm just wondering if anyone has had success with this situation. TIA.
