When you say "no longer valid" do you mean that the card has expired or that the account is closed? Do you have any other accounts with the card issuer?

If the former, that is meaningless. New cards are issued for all kinds of reasons, but that has nothing to do with the account. In addition, presuming that the card issuer is a US bank, it is almost a certainty that there is a provision in your card agreement allowing the issuer to debit any other account you have with the issuer.

If the account is closed and it is your only account with the card issuer, I guess they can sue you, but it would have to be a pretty nice suite at a pretty nice place to make that worthwhile !
