I do not mind to pay for the ticket. I can see the C class redemption is available on the date that I want. I just call BR SIN office, and I was told there is no way they can check the inventory for the upgrade without ticket number.

She also said the inventory for C redemption is not the same for PE upgrade to biz.

So my question, should I take the "gamble" to purchase the ticket and try to do the upgrade?

Currently I have no miles with BR. I have to transfer it from Citibank. 40K miles is already on the way to BR.

Is there really no way to check the inventory for the upgrade upfront?

Anyway to check how many seat left in C? I tried to do dummy booking on BR, but it seems it won't allow me to select seat without paying for it.

Any suggestion?

You can always check expert flyer for availability. At the end of the day, it depends on when you are flying and your routing for which one you want to choose. Upgrades are in the "Z" class, different from award tickets for biz.
