I would go for Cafe Hernandez in the cross, it's kind of like a diner/cafe.
The other alternative is Chat Thai down in outer Chinatown as well but even in Surry Hills the restaurants are pretty dead.
There's not even some place like L'Express to hang your hat on.
I really think that's why Golden Century gets the late night custom it's really the only full sit down restaurant that's open, food is acceptable but horribly overpriced and service is horrendous.
