I was curious and tried to create an account yesterday and had the same problem. It kept generating an error on the country no matter what I put down.
Update (3/6/2017): I just tried again today and it worked fine. Some quirky password rules (it must start with a letter or number but must end with the opposite character) and at first I put in USA and that didn't work. Finally I started to type in United States and then a drop down list appeared with USA in it.
