We went for a weekend a couple of weeks ago, and, primarily due to a lack of excitement about anything, ended up staying at the Grand Melia on an FHR Stay 3, Pay 2 deal.

We were, not only pleasantly surprised, but extremely happy with the hotel.

Service was very warm, from welcome glasses of wine to snacks and a bottle of franciacorta awaiting us in the suite. Every night turndown would do cute little touches with rose petals, making for a very lovely and romantic weekend.

The room had nice views over the Vatican, with St Peters dome, and was well laid out, with plenty of space and room. One of my favorite little touches was, as other hotels have started to do, a complimentary smart phone to use while in Rome. We didn't need this, but it's a lovely touch.

It felt like an urban oasis in the midst of a city. I'd absolutely return.
