Our little one is about the same age, and we've done multiple TPAC/TATL flights on the 777/787 J seats. Our last 789 trip was YVR-NRT.
We're fans of the 2A/3A or 2K/3K seat combo (window), or at least any pair of seats sitting in front/back rather than beside each other. At that age they like to stand up on the seat at times to peek at mom/dad, and it's easier to converse as a couple than the AD or GK combo.
Rows 1 and 8 on the 789 can be louder and have issues with light shining in from the galley.
The lav with the changing table is at the front of the J cabin. The changing table is on the 789 is good size.
Aside: 1D is the bassinet position, which a 22 month old will be too old/large for.
Ours is about the same age too, several tpac flights and we usually sit in Coach (oh the pain!!!!) And just book a seat for her. My problem is more shoulder width than leg length and I am 6'2". The middle seat with a toddler leaves lots of shoulder room! My wife doesn't like the bulkhead either because then the armrest doesn't come up so we don't even get the preferred seats. I am OK with this as it saves us several thousand dollars over the course of a year... which goes directly into my whiskey fund, I mean my daughters education fund
