Happened rather frequently when I was a kid. I'm 34 now so all almost all were pre 9/11. I have been invited twice since during flight when the first officer or pilot and I struck up a conversation about aviation.

The childhood ones were mostly on LY, FF & TW but a few domestic AA & KP (Kiwi airlines) flights too.

The two adult experiences were on LX & CX.
