BA does not calculate a fare difference in a downgrade.

The EU261 regulation states a reimbursement of a % of the ticket price paid (clarified to be the price of the sector not including taxes and fees).

So it makes no difference what the walk up price of WTP is on the day of the flight or the day you bought it because it is not relevant.
