What police report is going to be written up? Unless there are witnesses showing someone purposefully damaging the car, it's going to get chalked up to an accident, which it probably was. It's highly doubtful the police would even come, and if they did, they most likely would not file a report. Let the insurance company deal with it - they get paid to do that kind of investigation. They'll ping the hotel and the vendor the hotel uses for valet service.

If the driver has a full comprehensive policy, the deductible for a hit-and-run - which is probably how it will get coded by the insurance company - might be waived. It depends on the insurance company and the policy itself.
