Here is one issue I have, and another FlyerTalker also brought up the same thing a few months ago. The language in the program rules (for awards) says something to the effect that "....a stopover is permitted in Southeast Alaska when travelling BETWEEN Alaska and the lower 48...." and this is interpreted as meaning stopovers are OK when flying from Alaska, but not from the lower 48. AS will not permit a stopover in Southeast Alaska on award tickets when you are flying from the lower 48 to Alaska, but DOES permit one when flying from Alaska TO the lower 48. Why won't they allow stopovers when coming from the lower 48?
