I don't have any status with AA. In fact, when I booked my LAX-CLT flight, I didn't even enter my FF# on the reservation and it's been ages since I last flew AA. I just bought whatever was the cheapest fare for that day.

So I was a little confused when my reservation showed that the first checked bag was free. Was that just a random mistake of the website?
