Thanks a lot derby44 and jameswes! I was not aware of the minimum spending criterion because the concierge did the math for us already ($80/night x 2 nights -$50 =$110, and the other more expensive one for upgrading all the way to Presidential). Obviously she did not know it is inapplicable either. I guess that one was mostly on me since I did not read the fine print myself.
