It wasn't the TSA who gave me trouble. It was the TBIT 'line guardians' who apparently had marching orders that printed SU OLCI didn't count. I tried the escalators on both sides of the hall.

I agree that staying airside (or entering via another terminal) would have reduced the likelihood of having any issues, although I was not expecting to have an issue with both the boarding pass and the bags in transit.
That's something I'll remember for next time.
I would expect to be paged at the gate for document verification, but I doubt they'd be excited about unloading bags at T-:45.
